Some spreads stop us mid-review. No words on the page yet just the rough illustration, early stage, colors not even finalized. That happened three times in 2019 alone. There is something about children's book illustration that lands before language does. We built our entire editorial process around that instinct. If the art does not hit us first, we ask questions. Canada's kids deserve pictures that work before the words arrive.
